Team to watch
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre features the Yankees' two best pitching prospects and a slugger who ranked second in the Minors last year with 35 homers. Carlos Lagrange blazed fastballs throughout Spring Training and struck out Aaron Judge on a 103-mph heater in batting practice, while fellow right-hander Elmer Rodríguez has a deeper repertoire and more polish. Rodríguez ranked second in the Minors with 176 strikeouts in 150 innings last year, and Lagrange placed third with 168 K's in 120 frames. Outfielder Spencer Jones slashed .274/.362/.571 with 35 homers and 29 steals in 116 games between Double-A and Triple-A. Righty Brendan Beck has the best control in the system. Former nondrafted free agent Harrison Cohen has posted a 1.62 ERA and .155 opponent average during the past two seasons.
COMPLETE YANKEES PROSPECT COVERAGE
Players we could see in MLB in 2026
Lagrange, Rodríguez and Jones all should reach Yankee Stadium this season, though they may have to wait for injuries to open a spot on a crowded big league roster.
New faces
New York has a knack for turning later-round draftees into quality pitching prospects and is looking forward to 2025 picks Pico Kohn (fourth round), Rory Fox (sixth) and Mac Heuer (eighth) making their pro debuts this spring. Right-hander Cade Winquest is the first big league Rule 5 Draft choice to stick with the organization since Billy Parker in 1973. The Yankees acquired changeup artist Sean Paul Liñan from the Nationals two weeks ago in exchange for Jorbit Vivas.
On the shelf
Shortstop Dax Kilby, New York's top pick (supplemental first round) in 2025, will miss the start of Single-A Tampa's season with a hamstring strain but should return soon. Right-handers Bryce Cunningham and Heuer are building up in extended spring training after falling behind because of arm soreness. Righties Chase Hampton and Thatcher Hurd are still making their way back from February 2025 Tommy John surgeries and should return to game action midseason. Left-hander Brock Selvidge is out for the year following internal brace surgery in March.
