Yankees Probable Pitchers

Cole joined Tom Seaver (1973) as the only pitchers to record 13 or more strikeouts without a walk, pitching the Yankees to a 12-3 victory in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series at Cleveland. Including that start, Cole has pitched to a 1.32 ERA over 34 innings since being paired with catcher Kyle Higashioka on Sept. 5, with 47 strikeouts and five walks. He was 0-1 with a 4.96 ERA vs. Tampa Bay this year.

Snell became the first Rays pitcher to get through five no-hit innings in a postseason game. In two starts against the Yankees this season, Snell went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA and struck out eight over eight innings.

García (21 years, 140 days) will be the youngest starter in Yankees postseason history, surpassing Whitey Ford (1950 World Series). The rookie did not face the Rays during the regular season, which he finished with a 4.98 ERA across six starts.

Glasnow made three starts against New York this season, going 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings. Including the postseason, the right-hander has recorded eight or more strikeouts in nine of his 12 starts.

Morton allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings in his last regular-season start against the Phillies. It will be a 12-day layoff between starts for Morton, who hasn’t pitched since Sept. 25.

Tanaka allowed six earned runs to the Indians in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series after never previously allowing more than three earned runs in any of his first eight career postseason starts. He split a pair of decisions across three regular-season starts against the Rays (4.20 ERA).

Thompson will be making his first career postseason start, though it comes as an opener. Thompson made one appearance as an opener this season, tossing two scoreless innings against the Yankees on Aug. 8. Ryan Yarbrough is expected to get the bulk of the innings in relief.

Montgomery will make his postseason debut, tabbed for his first outing since Sept. 24. The left-hander faced the Rays on Sept. 2 at Yankee Stadium but did not complete the first inning.

Cole will pitch on short rest for the first time in his big league career, telling manager Aaron Boone, "Give me the ball." The ace fired 97 pitches in his Game 1 victory, permitting three runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out eight, allowing a pair of homers.

Glasnow will get the Game 5 start in the ALDS for the second consecutive season. In his Game 2 win, the right-hander allowed four runs and struck out 10 over five-plus innings. Glasnow has never made a start on short rest in his career.
