Giants set 2012 Opening Day roster

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The San Francisco Giants, who will open their 130th National League campaign, have set their 2012 Opening Day roster with the following moves, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today:

• Purchased the contract of outfielder Gregor Blanco from triple-A Fresno.   

• Optioned right-handed pitcher Steve Edlefsen and catcher Eli Whiteside to triple-A Fresno.

• Reassigned infielder Joaquin Arias, outfielder Justin Christian and right-handed pitcher Jean Machi to triple-A Fresno.

• A trade pending with catcher Chris Stewart will be announced later today.

• The Giants also announced on Friday, March 30 that the following players were placed on the disabled list: Left-handed pitcher Dan Runzler (left latissimus dorsi strain), infielder Freddy Sanchez (right shoulder dislocation) and left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp (left elbow strain) placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26. Right-handed pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (lower back strain) placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27.
