Relentless week helps Belt capture NL honor
Giants first baseman's two homers, three multihit games spark .440 average
After collecting a hit in each of his seven games last week, Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was named the National League Player of the Week.
Belt hit .440 (11-for-25) and led the NL in total bases (20) and runs scored (eight). He was tied for second in home runs (two) and hits, and turned in the NL's eighth-best slugging percentage (.800). Belt also had a .500 on-base percentage and recorded three doubles and five RBIs.
It is Belt's first career weekly award.
Belt reached base in all four of his plate appearances last Monday, going 3-for-3 with three singles, a walk and two runs. He then hit a three-run first-inning homer in San Francisco's 4-1 win over the Brewers on Thursday.
Belt also homered the following night -- his second time homering in back-to-back games this year -- in a 5-2 loss to the Orioles. He also recorded his 22nd multihit game of the season with a 2-for-4 afternoon on Saturday against Baltimore.
Belt's 46 RBIs are just 10 short of his career high of 56, set last season. He's already established a new career high with 13 homers, beating his total of nine from last season.
