Randy Winn was named the Giants’ vice president of player development in November 2024. With over a decade of high-level experience in Major League Baseball, Winn has established a versatile career spanning front-office strategy, professional scouting, and on-field player development. Between 2012 and 2018, he served as a special assistant to General Manager Bobby Evans, where he was involved in trade deadline operations, free agent target meetings and end of year organizational evaluations. From 2012-2015, Winn assisted with player development, focusing on hitting, outfield defense and baserunning, while also evaluating the Giants minor league system. He served as the Giants outfield and baserunning Coordinator in 2016 before evaluating talent both at the Major and minor league levels for the Giants from 2017-2018. In 2019, Winn served as a pro scout, working under then Director of Pro Scouting Zack Minasian.
In addition to his duties with the organization over the years, Winn worked as an analyst covering Giants baseball for NBC Sports Bay Area from 2013-2024. Winn was voted as the chairman of the board for the Giants Community Fund in September 2024. He’s also been a board member for the Baseball Assistance Team (BAT) since 2002, serving nine years as president from 2011-2020.
Winn played nearly five of his 13-year big league seasons with the Giants from 2005-2009 after coming over in a trade with Seattle in July of 2005. In 666 games as a Giant, he slashed .290/.345/.432 with 343 runs, 169 doubles, 18 triples, 51 home runs, 262 RBI and 73 stolen bases. His 11 leadoff home runs as a Giant rank third-most in the SF-era and he remains one of 23 players in franchise history to hit for the cycle, doing so on August 15, 2005.
Born in Los Angeles, Winn attended San Ramon Valley High School (Danville) and Santa Clara University in the Bay Area before being selected by the Marlins in the third round of the 1995 draft.
