ANAHEIM -- Orioles rookie catcher Chance Sisco exited Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels in the seventh inning after a scary collision with teammate Pedro Alvarez on Ian Kinsler's foul popup.
Sisco, who looked like he may have lost consciousness for several seconds, was initially ruled to have a facial contusion.
"He got more of it on his nose more than anything," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said of Sisco, who was set to stay with family on Tuesday night. "You know, when you have a real hard blow and your eyes tear up. Right now, he's not showing any concussion symptoms at all, so what we'll do is make some possible plans in case he has something [happen]. We'll give him a call tomorrow morning and make sure that nothing has cropped up. That way we can [call up] a catcher if we have to."
The play occurred with reliever Miguel Castro on the mound and the Orioles down two runs, as Kinsler hit a towering popup by the home dugout. Both Sisco and third baseman Alvarez raced to chase it down, with Alvarez ultimately making the grab. But it appeared that Sisco didn't hear Alvarez call for the ball and was also tracking it down, taking Alvarez's forearm/elbow to the face and immediately hitting the ground.
Sisco didn't move and O's head athletic trainer Brian Ebel raced out of the visitors' dugout as players motioned for assistance. After several minutes, Sisco was able to sit up, and he eventually walked off the field under the careful eye of Ebel.
"The way he laid on the ground, that's not a fun trip over there," said Showalter, who joined Ebel. "I'm sure he was thinking about the one that [Tim] Beckham called him off of real late, and that young man wasn't about to let another one fall where he was around. I'll tell you that's what he was thinking."
Sisco was replaced by Caleb Joseph. Joseph was already expected to start on Wednesday with the Angels sending lefty Andrew Heaney to the mound, though the O's will make a move if Sisco is not available off the bench.
