Nats invite bevy of prospects to camp, including No. 2 pick Crews

WASHINGTON -- Nameplates representing the Nationals’ future will fill the clubhouse at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches when Spring Training begins in two weeks. 

The Nats have invited several of their top prospects to camp in West Palm Beach, Fla., including outfielder Dylan Crews (Washington’s No. 1, per MLB Pipeline), outfielder James Wood (No. 2), third baseman Brady House (No. 3), outfielder Robert Hassell III (No. 8) and infielders Trey Lipscomb (No. 14) and Darren Baker (No. 25).  

Crews (No. 7), Wood (No. 14) and House (No. 48) rank in MLB Pipeline’s top 100.

Players with Major League experience invited to camp include outfielder Travis Blankenhorn, first baseman Lewin Díaz, left-hander Joe La Sorsa and first baseman/outfielder Juan Yepez. Catcher Brady Lindsly is eyeing his big league debut.

PROSPECTS

OF Dylan Crews
Age: 21 (turns 22 on Feb. 26)
Crews will be in Major League camp less than a year after winning the College World Series and the Golden Spikes Award at LSU. After being selected No. 2 overall by Washington in July, Crews quickly rose to Double-A Harrisburg. He slashed .292/.377/.467 with five home runs across 35 games in his first pro season.

OF James Wood
Age: 21 
Wood, the Nationals’ 2023 Minor League Hitter of the Year, paced the organization in homers, RBIs, slugging percentage and extra-base hits last season between High-A Wilmington and Double-A. He stood out at the plate, slashing .262/.353/.520 with 26 home runs and 18 stolen bases in 129 games.  

3B Brady House 
Age: 20 
House led Washington’s Minor League system in batting average last season as he slashed .312/.365/.497 in 88 games between Single-A Fredericksburg, High-A and Double-A. He also recorded a .862 OPS, 12 homers and nine stolen bases while ranking in the organization’s top five in slugging, OPS and on-base percentage. 

OF Robert Hassell III 
Age: 22 
Hassell advanced from Single-A to Double-A in 2023, slashing .221/.324/.321 with 15 stolen bases in a career-high 121 games. He most recently batted .290, drove in 12 runs and stole six bases in 20 Arizona Fall League games.

INF Trey Lipscomb 
Age: 23 
Lipscomb enters camp with the momentum of being named the Nationals’ Minor League Defensive Player of the Year and winning the Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award at third base. His 139 hits and 29 doubles paced Washington’s Minor Leaguers, while he slashed .272/.311/.419 in 129 contests between High-A and Double-A.  

INF Darren Baker 
Age: 24  
Baker played the outfield in addition to his primary role at second base last season while slashing .273/.338/.340 in 99 Triple-A games. He ranked third in batting average, fourth in hits, tied sixth in triple, 10th in on-base percentage, OPS and stolen bases in the Nats’ Minor League system.

C Brady Lindsly
Age: 25
Lindsly is familiar with Nationals big league Spring Training: he received a non-roster invite last season, too. Between Double-A and Triple-A, Lindsly slashed .234/.331/.353 with 33 RBIs and 30 walks in 62 games.

MAJOR LEAGUE EXPERIENCE 

OF Travis Blankenhorn 
Age: 27 
Service time: 0.089 years  
Blankenhorn appeared in 10 games with the Nationals last season following a standout Triple-A performance. He slashed .262/.360/.517 with 23 home runs and an organization-leading .877 OPS with the Red Wings.  

1B Lewin Díaz 
Age: 27 
Service time: 1.010 years 
Diaz enters Nats camp after playing 118 games for the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate last season (.268/.362/.442 slash line, 17 home runs). He appeared in 112 Major League games with the Marlins from 2020-22.

LHP Joe La Sorsa
Age: 25 
Service time: 0.088 years 
La Sorsa went 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA in 28 1/3 innings out of the Nationals’ bullpen in 2023 after he was claimed off waivers from the Rays on June 8. The southpaw did not give up an extra-base hit to a lefty batter last season in Washington.  

1B/OF Juan Yepez 
Age: 25 
Service time: 1.018 years 
Yepez appeared in 104 games with the Cardinals over the past two seasons, most recently slashing .183/.246/.300 in 28 contests in 2023. He led all Minor League players by driving in 43 runs from Aug. 1 through the remainder of the season.
