Brewers trade reliever Burke Badenhop to Boston

Acquire Left-Handed Pitching Prospect Luis Ortega

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired left-handed pitcher Luis Ortega from Boston in exchange for right-handed reliever Burke Badenhop. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin.

Ortega, 20, has spent two seasons in the minor leagues with Boston, pitching in the Dominican League (2012) and Gulf Coast League (2013). He is 9-6 with a 2.25 ERA in 25 games, including 14 starts (96ip, 24er). Ortega pitched exclusively as a starting pitcher in 2012, going 6-3 with a 2.12 ERA in 13 starts. He made 12 appearances (1 start) this season, going 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA.

Ortega was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 2, 2011.

Badenhop, 30, went 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA and 1 save in 63 relief appearances during his only season with the Brewers. He was acquired from Tampa Bay last December 1 in exchange for outfielder Raul Mondesi Jr. Badenhop is eligible for arbitration.
