Bullpen Coach
Bryan Eversgerd is in his fifth season as Bullpen Coach on the Cardinals' staff. Previously, he had served five years (2013-17) as the pitching coach for Memphis (AAA). In 2019, Cardinals relievers led the majors with 52 saves and ranked 2nd in the N.L. to the Los Angeles Dodgers (3.78) with their 3.82 ERA. The team's 71.2 save pct. led the senior circuit and ranked 3rd overall in the majors, while their collective .219 opponent's batting average paced the majors, and their 97 Holds ranked 3rd in the N.L. Prior to arriving in St. Louis, Eversgerd's Memphis staff led the Pacific Coast League with a 3.77 ERA in 2017 while winning the league championship. The Redbirds' 3.77 ERA was the only sub-4.00 ERA in the PCL that season. Prior to his stint at Memphis, Eversgerd spent two seasons (2011-12) in Springfield (AA) as pitching coach for the Double-A Cardinals. While in Springfield, Eversgerd's 2012 staff registered a 3.83 team ERA and surrendered the second fewest hits en route to the Texas League Championship. The staff went on to hurl a postseason best 2.48 ERA over nine games in the Texas League playoffs. Eversgerd was awarded the George Kissell Award in 2012 for his efforts as voted on by his peers among the Cardinals minor league coaching staffs. Eversgerd has been the pitching coach for three Cardinals Minor League Pitchers-of-the-Year in Jack Flaherty (2017) and former Cardinals hurlers Shelby Miller (2011) and Seth Maness (2012). In 2013, Eversgerd was the pitching coach for 2013 National League Championship Series MVP Michael Wacha, who spent the majority of the year in Memphis and represented the Redbirds at the Triple-A All-Star Game. His coaching tenure began at the Cardinals' Carolina League affiliate in 2001 at Potomac, before taking a two-year hiatus and returning as pitching coach for Peoria in the Midwest League. He remained in the Midwest League at Peoria and Quad Cities from 2004-07 before joining Double-A Springfield from 2008-09 and a year later at High-A Palm Beach in 2010. Eversgerd began his playing career with the Cardinals, signing as a non-drafted free agent on June 14, 1989. He pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his Major League debut for the Cardinals on April 26, 1994, and picked up his first big-league win in his only Major League start on May 20, 1994 at Florida. The left-hander also pitched for Montreal and Texas before returning to St. Louis from 1998 to 2000. Eversgerd graduated from Carlyle (Ill.) High School in 1987, playing college baseball at Kaskaskia Community College and leading the team to the 1989 sectional championship. He resides in Centralia, Ill., with his wife, Lisa, daughter, Kristen and son, Jacob.
