Mariners PLAY BALL Events with Challenger Little League

Youth in communities in each of our 5-state market will have access to free and fun Play Ball events as part of the Mariners On BASE 365 program.

In 2023, with support from Microsoft, the Mariners will be partnering with baseball and softball organizations to host Play Ball Fests and Play Ball Pop-Ups, and engaging with community organizations, school districts, and cities to bring the joy of Play Ball to communities across our region.

With a goal of serving over 1,500 youth through this initiative, every child will receive a Play Ball Kit including a Mariners drawstring bag, water bottle, and bat and ball set, PLUS a chance to Play Ball in a fun and supportive environment.

Join us in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana during Play Ball Weekend in June or in Alaska in late April.

2019 PLAY BALL

On May 18, Mariners players, families, staff, broadcasters, and Mariner Moose hosted the second annual PLAY BALL event Challenger Little League by bringing the big league experience to young ball players. Challenger Little League is adapted baseball for differently-abled athletes ages 5-22. Over 100 Challenger athletes from local Little League districts and their families gathered at Garfield Playfield to play a one-hour game with the help of players who helped them at the plate and in the field. Omar Narvaez, Mallex Smith, Mike Wright, and Brandon Brennan all joined to help the athletes play ball.

On July 7, the Mariners hosted four Challenger Little League teams at T-Mobile Park for a one-hour adapted baseball game prior to the Sunday home game. Mariners broadcasters and production crew worked together to provide an on-field experience just like the Mariners enjoy on the MLB stage. Mayor Jenny Durkan, Mariners players, families, and Mariner Moose all joined on field during the Challenger game and helped the athletes hit, pitch, and run. Felix Hernandez even pitched a few innings to Challenger athletes.
