Mariners select OF Endy Chavez from Triple-A Tacoma

RHP Brandon Maurer optioned to Triple-A Tacoma and RHP Blake Beavan transferred to 60-day disabled list

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster move this afternoon:

·         Endy Chavez, OF, selected from AAA Tacoma

·         Brandon Maurer, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma

·         Blake Beavan, RHP, transferred from 15-day to 60-day disabled list (right shoulder tendinitis)

Chavez (#9) will be in uniform and bat leadoff for tonight's series opener vs. the Detroit Tigers (7:10 pm) at Safeco Field. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Blake Beavan has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list. The Mariners 40-man roster remains full with these transactions.

Chavez, 36, opened the season with AAA Tacoma batting .272 (31x114) with 2 doubles and 6 RBI in 37 games. With the Rainiers he appeared at all three outfield positions (LF - 5 G, CF - 10 G, RF - 8 G) and designated hitter (11 G).

Chavez is a veteran of 12 Major League seasons (10.012 service time) and has appeared in 1,071 games. He was with the Mariners in 2009 (.273, 54 G) and 2013 (.267, 97 G).
