BALTIMORE -- Two Orioles regulars were bitten by the injury bug in a span of four innings Sunday, when Hanser Alberto and Renato Núñez were forced to exit the club’s 8-3 win over the Rays at Camden Yards.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Alberto suffered a head contusion and cervical strain -- but showed no evidence of a concussion -- after colliding with Rays shortstop Willy Adames in the third inning. He will continue to be monitored due to the sensitive area of his injury.

For Nunez, the issue was left hamstring tightness sustained while running the bases in the seventh. Nunez, who finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, was lifted for pinch-hitter Chris Davis in the eighth. The severity of Nunez’s injury was not immediately clear.

Alberto's prognosis was considered good news given the alternative, though the Orioles will keep a close eye on him.

Alberto remained on the ground behind second base for some time after making contact with Adames’ knee while attempting to take second base on an errant Jalen Beeks pitch. Alberto was initially awarded the base by second-base umpire Ted Barrett. He was eventually ruled out after a replay review, and he walked off the field with head trainer Brian Ebel, but under his own power. He was replaced at third base by Rio Ruiz the following inning, after the Orioles rallied for three runs off Beeks.

A surprise spark plug for the Orioles this season, Alberto is hitting .314 after his third-inning single off Beeks. His .403 average off left-handed pitching leads the Majors. Nunez is batting .251 with 28 home runs and and .803 OPS as the club’s everyday designated hitter.
