These 7 clubs loaded up on prospects at the Deadline

In case you weren’t scoring at home, there were a total of 83 prospects traded in the week leading up to the Trade Deadline period, 62 of whom found new homes on Monday alone.

A large number of those prospects are on their new team Top 30 Prospect lists -- 51 to be precise -- and a lot of teams got in on the action. There were five Top 100 prospects exchanged, the most since 2022.

A total of 10 teams acquired at least three Top 30 prospects. The Mets led all teams with eight ranked prospects while the Orioles and Giants followed with five each. Six teams picked up four Top 30 guys -- the Nationals, Angels, Marlins, Tigers, Cardinals and Blue Jays -- while the Rockies close out this list with three.

In curating a ranking of teams with the “best” prospect hauls, it’s not only the amount each organization added to its respective system, though that obviously carries a lot of weight. The quality of the prospects in the deals figured into the subjective equation of the list below as well.

1. Mets: 11 prospects (8 on Top 30)
This was quantity AND quality. One of two teams to add a new No. 1 prospect (Top 100 infielder Jefferson Rojas from the Cubs for Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor), the Mets did the best they could to find a small silver lining in a disappointing big league season. The Mets list now has four new members in the top 15 alone (Rojas, Sammy Stafura, Aidan Smith and Émilien Pitre) and they spread things around to get the eight ranked guys, making deals with three different teams to restock, led by three Top 30 guys from the Rays in the Freddy Peralta deal.

2. Orioles: 8 prospects (5 on Top 30)
The Orioles join the Mets in adding a new No. 1, getting the top-ranked pitcher at the Deadline (Anthony Eyanson in the blockbuster Adley Rutschman trade with the Red Sox, No. 49 on the overall Top 100). That deal also netted them their No. 7 and 8 prospects, RHP Kyson Witherspoon and OF Enddy Azocar. Baltimore also reacquired Michael Forret from the Rays in the Tyler Wells deal to give the team four new members in its top 10.

3. Giants: 6 prospects (5 on Top 30)
Much like the Mets, this is far from how Buster Posey and company thought they’d be spending early August. But they did well in getting a very solid return once they went into selling mode. They had the best percentage of prospects received to land in their Top 30, with two arms -- Ramon Marquez, who came from the Phillies in the Luiz Arraez/Caleb Kilian deal, and Henry Lalane, shipped from the Yankees for Heliot Ramos -- now in the top 10. Ramos brought in a second Top 30 player (Kaeden Kent) while sending Robbie Ray to the Padres added two more (Miguel Mendez and Joniel Hernandez).

4. Tigers: 6 prospects (4 on Top 30)
The Tarik Skubal trade has been pretty polarizing in terms of how people thought the Tigers did. Sure, he was the biggest name on the market, but he is also a rental who will be a free agent at the end of the season, so give credit where it’s due for bringing in a pair of Top 100 prospects in Zyhir Hope and River Ryan to go along with the intriguing Brady Smith. The buzzer-beater trade of Casey Mize to the Padres added Kash Mayfield, giving the Tigers three players now in their top six.

5. Nationals: 8 prospects (4 on Top 30)
OK, this one is more quantity-driven, but you have to applaud the team for signing Foster Griffin from Japan then watching him become an All-Star before dealing him for four total prospects, even if only one of them (Josh Hartle) was ranked. Sending Luis García Jr. to the Yankees was huge in terms of ranked additions as Jack Cebert, Ben Grable and Yovanny Cruz all went onto Washington’s list.

6. Angels: 7 prospects (4 on Top 30)
The Angels are the last team on this list to welcome in a Top 100 prospect. Arjun Nimmala, who came from the Blue Jays in the José Soriano deal (which brought in three prospects total), slots in at No. 2 on the Halos’ list behind Tyler Bremner, though that could be flipped when we rerank the lists in a couple of weeks. Three other trades added three more Top 30 guys with Ryan Zeferjahn getting them Mason McGwire, Jo Adell bringing in Jacob Cozart and Logan O’Hoppe/Chase Silseth netting Angel Arredando.

7. Marlins: 7 prospects (4 on Top 30)
Is this the greatest return for a Rule 5 pick ever? Johan Santana might have something to say about that, but getting three Top 30 guys (Brayden Taylor, Jacob Kisting, Adrian Santana) from the Rays for Hicks just two seasons after selecting him in the 2024 Rule 5 Draft is pretty nice work. Braxton Garrett brought in the other ranked prospect (Jonathon Long) and another prospect, and dealing Lake Bachar to the Pirates added some depth to the system with three more players.
