Orioles' all-time Top 5 in-season trades

Will the Orioles swing a deal before the July 31 Trade Deadline? Sometimes it takes years to determine how well a team did in a trade. With the benefit of hindsight, the following are the five most notable trades in franchise history that were conducted during the regular season, according to beat writer Brittany Ghiroli. Agree? No. 1: July 29, 1988: Orioles receive outfielder Brady Anderson and then-prospect Curt Schilling from the Red Sox in exchange for right-hander Mike Boddicker.

Anderson, who stills owns several club records, was a consistent outfielder in Baltimore for 14 seasons. Schilling would go on to lead the D-backs to the World Series title in 2001 -- and later Boston -- while Boddicker went 39-22 with a 3.49 ERA in two and a half seasons with the Sox.

No. 2: July 30, 2011: Orioles acquire first baseman Chris Davis and right-hander Tommy Hunter from the Rangers for Koji Uehara and cash considerations.

After playing five different positions last season, Davis has found a home at first base this year and leads the Majors with 37 homers. Hunter, who posted a 5.45 ERA last year while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen, is 3-2 with a 2.41 ERA as a late-inning reliever this season.

Uehara was 1-2 with a 2.50 ERA 59 games with the Rangers from 2011-12 and is now the Red Sox's closer.

No. 3: July 28, 1995: The Orioles ship outfielders Damon Buford and Alex Ochoa to the Mets for outfielder Bobby Bonilla and Jimmy Williams.

At the time of the deal, the O's were 4 1/2 games back of the American League East-leading Red Sox. Bonilla hit 10 homers and notched 46 RBIs in 61 games following the trade, but Baltimore was unable to catch Boston and finished the season 71-73 and 15 games out of first place.

In 1996, Bonilla launched 28 homers and notched 116 RBIs as Baltimore secured the AL Wild Card. After beating the Indians in the AL Division Series, the O's fall to the Yankees in the AL Championship Series.

No. 4: July 28, 2000: The Orioles traded shortstop Mike Bordick to the Mets for right-hander Pat Gorman, right-hander Leslie Brea, outfielder Mike Kinkade and outfielder/infielder Melvin Mora.

Mora would spend 10 seasons with the O's, batting .280 with 158 homers and 662 RBIs. Bordick played 56 games with the New York, re-signed with Baltimore on Dec. 20, 2000, and was elected to the Orioles' Hall of Fame in 2011.

No. 5: July 7, 1995: Orioles receive right-hander Scott Erickson from the Twins for right-hander Scott Klingenbeck and outfielder Kimera Bartee.

Erickson pitched seven years with the Orioles and was a big part of the club's playoff teams in 1996 and '97. Overall, he was 79-68 with a 4.73 ERA with Baltimore.

Klingenbeck went 1-3 with an 8.30 ERA in 28 games with Minnesota from 1995-96 and Bartee never appeared in a game with the Twins.
