Cardinals agree to terms with 27 draft picks
First rounders Wisdom and Bean highlight list that includes seven top 10 rounders
The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to terms with 27 of their 44 draft picks selected in this year’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Among those signed include first round picks third baseman Patrick Wisdom (52nd overall) and catcher Steve Bean (59th round) as well as seven total players drafted in the first 10 rounds and 15 drafted in the top 20 rounds.
Bean, a highly-touted catcher out of Rockwall (Texas) High School, decided to sign with the Cardinals after signing a letter of intent to play college baseball at the University of Texas in the fall.
Tim Cooney (LHP), Kyle Barraclough (RHP), Yoenny Gonzalez (OF), Rowan Wick (C) and Jacob Wilson (INF) round out the remaining Top 10 round picks signed.
Four of the Cardinals 14 total Top 10 round picks are still playing college baseball in the Super Regional round and unavailable to sign until their season concludes.
The Cardinals also signed two picks with ties to the organization, right-handed pitcher Michael Aldrete, a 39th round pick out of San Jose State University, son of Cardinals bench coach Mike Aldrete; and infielder Jacoby Almaraz, son of Cardinals crosschecker Joe Almaraz.
