Yankees Acquire INF Martin Prado from Arizona

The New York Yankees today announced they have acquired INF Martin Prado from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor leaguer Pete O'Brien and either cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Prado, 30, hit .270 (109-for-403) with 44R, 17 doubles, 5HR and 42RBI in 106 games with the Diamondbacks this season. In 944 games over nine Major League seasons with Atlanta (2006-12) and Arizona (2013-14), the Venezuela native batted .290 (1,033-for-3,558) with 469R, 221 doubles, 71HR and 410RBI. The right-handed batter was originally signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on February 13, 2001.

O'Brien, 24, combined to hit .267 (103-for-386) with 23 doubles, 33HR and 70RBI in 102 combined games with Single-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton this season and was selected to the Eastern League All-Star team after batting .245 (67-for-274) with 14 doubles, 23 home runs and 51RBI in 72 games with the Thunder following his promotion from Tampa on May 9. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
