Oriole Park to serve as 2020 voting center

October 22nd, 2020

The Orioles announced Thursday that they and the Baltimore City Board of Elections have finalized plans to designate Oriole Park at Camden Yards as an early voting center, in an effort to guarantee Baltimore City residents a safe and secure place to cast their ballots in the general election.

The ballpark will be open to registered Baltimore City voters from Monday, Oct. 26, through Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. ET daily -- including Saturdays and Sundays.

“The right of every American to vote in our elections is a fundamental promise of our democracy,” Orioles president and CEO John Angelos said. “In support of Commissioner [Rob] Manfred’s voter engagement efforts, and as stewards of an iconic community asset and national treasure in Oriole Park at Camden Yards, it is a privilege to collaborate with the Baltimore City Board of Elections and the Maryland Stadium Authority to offer Camden Yards as a polling location and shared gathering place this year on Election Day, just as it has been on many game days over nearly three decades."

Additionally, the Orioles and MLB have also declared Election Day as a paid day off for all full-time employees and have encouraged them to vote and volunteer as poll workers. The club plans to continue educating and encouraging fans to register and participate in the upcoming election as part of its “Voter Up” campaign, which, in support of MLB’s league-wide voter engagement initiative, strives to raise awareness about key dates in this year’s election cycle. It is part of an organization-wide celebration of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment.

Dempsey’s Brew Pub and Restaurant will serve as the polling location for the voting center, where strict physical distancing guidelines will be enforced. Voters will be required to wear masks and remain six feet apart, while being cautioned that such measures could result in lines and long wait times. The Maryland State Board of Elections advises that the best time to vote in person is on weekends between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET, according to the Orioles.

Additionally, voters can place their ballots at two active drop box locations: outside the B&O Warehouse’s lobby at 333 West Camden St., and outside Gate A, under the south end of the warehouse. Completed ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Free parking for voters will be available each day in the East Warehouse Lot and in Lot A.

Oriole Park at Camden Yards will be one of several MLB stadiums to serve as voting centers or ballot drop locations for the general election, along with Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., and Comerica Park in Detroit.

"We look forward to continuing this tradition now and long into the future as we strengthen our nation, principles, and the shared American ideals that bind all of us together," Angelos said.
