Snider lays out for eye-popping diving catch

BALTIMORE -- In the sixth inning of the Orioles' 8-0 win in Sunday's nightcap of a doubleheader, the Indians were desperately trying to get back in the game.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor hit a hard liner to left that appeared to be heading to the gap for extra bases. However, Baltimore left fielder Travis Snider ranged to his left and went full extension to make a sensational diving catch.

"I saw the ball hit off the bat," said Snider, who also homered in the Orioles' six-run fourth inning. "It's over your left shoulder. You've got to turn around as fast as you can. I'm not fast. I was able to get there within the vicinity and try and lay out for the team and try and come up with one."

Snider received a standing ovation as he lay on the outfield grass and held up the ball. Orioles righty Chris Tillman got a groundout from Michael Brantley to end the inning and then waited outside the dugout to fist-bump Snider for making the grab.

"It was awesome, it really was," Tillman said. "I was trying to let him enjoy that standing O he got, but given the circumstances of the game -- these guys had a rough go of it -- I want to get back on the mound and show respect to the other team. I talked to him about it. It was fun, it really was fun to watch. He was pumped up about it, and I think all of us were."

Orioles manager Buck Showalter has not been surprised by Snider's prowess in the outfield.

"Travis came over with a good reputation defensively," Showalter said. "You won't find a better play made this year than him. My gosh. I had a good angle at it, too. I know Chris was thrilled with it. He had a pretty good reaction."
